How to Add AI Customer Service on Telegram

Cross-border sellers run group buys and product drops on Telegram, and the questions pile up in DMs. Here's how to connect a Telegram bot to a shared inbox with AI answering first and handoff to humans when needed.

You post a new product link in your Telegram group, and within minutes the DMs fill up: “how much,” “do you ship to my country,” “where’s my last order.” Broadcasting to a group is easy. Answering the flood of private replies that follow is the hard part, and if support is still reading them one by one, peak traffic on this channel basically means dropped messages.

Why cross-border sellers can’t skip Telegram

Telegram has deep penetration in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and CIS countries, and many sellers treat it as a core owned channel: group buys, promo announcements, and deals closed directly in DMs. Compared with WhatsApp or Instagram, Telegram users tend to get straight to the point — price, shipping, returns, all in quick succession. If support can’t keep pace, orders slip through.

The problem is that most support teams live on the website widget or email, and Telegram is often handled ad hoc by a founder or ops person with no dedicated agent watching it. Once volume picks up, messages get missed.

The setup itself is straightforward:

  1. Open Telegram, find @BotFather, and send /newbot to create a new bot. You’ll get a bot token.

  • Questions with a clear answer in the knowledge base — pricing, shipping times, return policy — get answered automatically from the knowledge base, no need to wait for an agent to come online.
